Somerset County League Cup

Berrow 3, Glastonbury 2

BERROW battled their way into the next round of the League Cup with a strong performance in a 3-2 victory over Glastonbury.

Jack Taylor netted twice and Dave Bidgood once, to dispatch the first division side.

Berrow made the perfect start when Jack Taylor burst through and when his shot was well saved, but Dave Bidgood followed up to slot into the empty net for his first Berrow goal.

Berrow were well on top with Luke McErlain and Ash Catlow dominating in midfield and Bidgood and Tom Yates always available to support Taylor and Jack Smith up top.

After 10 minutes it was two, when good work down the left from Yates led to Steve Osgood crossing - and from Smith's flick, Taylor controlled and finished from six yards.

Yates went close from 20 yards and Bidgood and Taylor both forced saves from the keeper.

On 30 minutes Glastonbury pulled one back after a lack of concentration at the back left their striker to finish well at the back post.

This gave the away side some hope having been out played up until then and the rest of the half saw chances for both teams - James Gass covered brilliantly to block a dangerous attack, before Smith met Luke McErlain's free-kick with a great first touch but blazed his effort wide.

Berrow again made a good start to the half with Smith and Taylor a big threat, and with Jack Shepherd replacing the injured Jack West, the back four looked solid dealing with any counter attacks.

On 65 minutes Steve Murray, making his debut for the club having signed on dual registration with Taunton town and James reddish replaced Smith and Yates.

Within five minutes Taylor had made a great run into the box only to be brought down the keeper.

He stepped up to confidently convert the resulting penalty and all but seal the win.

With Catlow and particularly captain McErlain on top form, Berrow kept the ball well to see the game out, until in the final seconds Glastonbury pulled a goal back when the hosts failed to clear a corner.
