BRIDGWATER Sports progressed to the next round of the Taunton & District Saturday League’s Seward Cup with a 3-2 shootout victory over Creech Cougars on Saturday.

The sides finished the 90 minutes level at 3-3, with Simon Caddy, Joe Clarke and Jason Jones scoring for Sports – and Tom Merritt (2) and Ali Poole on target for Creech.

Wembdon were beaten 4-2 on penalties by Division 1 Sampford Blues in the Knock-out Cup – after taking the lead courtesy of a Matt Washer penalty after he was upended in the box.

In the second half, Sampford Blues levelled the scores also from the spot through Alex Evans.

Joe Cresswell was on hand to tap home a quick break, to put Wembdon back in front. A late penalty was awarded to Sampford Blues, which they converted – this time it was Craig Lawrence, sending the game straight to penalties.

Sampford Blues held their nerve to progress through to the next round.

In Division 1 league action, leaders Loco’s game postponed, so it was up to Bridgwater Sports to take the opportunity to go top – and did so with a 4-0 victory over Sampford Blues.

Joe Daly, Jason Hitchcock, Matthew Fursland and Paul Organ netted Sports’ goals.

North Petherton played out yet another high scoring game, this one against Wyvern Rangers and came from behind on two occasions to win 5-3 and gain the three points.

Senna Clapp scored twice Brady Hart, Scott Harman and Lewis Irish added one each – Joe Enticott hit a pair for Rangers and Chris Hale scored the other.

Clinical finishing from The Gallery saw them thrash Stogursey 10-1 in Division 2 – veteran striker Mark Pope was on fire again with four goals, Phil Simms, Jamie Evans, Jack Griffiths, Sam Walker, Aaron Harbour all added one each; Tom Andrew scored for Stogursey.

Watchet’s season continues to be disappointing for them losing this week 4-2 to Morganians. Connor Jeromson and George Dawson scored for them but two goals from Andrew James and one each from Jon Harriott and Tom Hughes ensured Morganians took all three points.

Wembdon bounced back from their mid-week cup defeat to beat bottom side Minehead Reserves 2-1 with Dan Spencer scoring both goals.

In Division 3, leaders Sydenham Rangers are now in double figures having won their tenth consecutive League game, this one 3-1 at Exmoor Rangers.

Gareth Treasure scored twice and Martyn Milton once, Clinton Kneeshaw replied for Rangers.

In Division 4, Middlezoy Athletic had a relatively easy afternoon beating the bare eleven of Williton 6-0. Paul Goss was the leading marksman with four goals, Kieran Scobie and Regan Blake added one each.

Wiveliscombe beat Bridgwater Grasshoppers on their own ground 4-2 thanks to strikes from Ash Roberts, Lloyd Cuthbert, Jake Harris and Connor Pearce; Dan Saunders and Chris Thomas replied for Grasshoppers.

In Division 5, Bridgwater Wolves had a convincing 9-0 victory over local rivals Morganians Reserves.

Brad Walford scored three, Sam Pople two with Jack Crook, Jake Sharman, Gareth Mountstephens and Andy Ham all added one each.
