Somerset County Division Two West

Kewstoke Lions 0, Highbridge Town 3

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt heaped praise on his “outstanding” players as they beat previously unbeaten Kewstoke Lions 3-0 on Saturday.

Sam Redstone, Kane Powell and Chris Taylor were all on target for Town, who climb to seventh in Division Two West - and Pitt said there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

He said: “I thought we were outstanding from start to finish in a game against an unbeaten side who are very good at playing to their strengths, but we more than matched their strengths and implemented our game - and thoroughly deserved all three points.

“On another day, had we taken our chances, it could have been five or six - but the positive is that we are creating lots of chances, looking very solid at the back and winning the key midfield battles.

“I am feeling really confident with the football and discipline the boys are showing at present and I am certain this is just one of many more league wins to come, starting this Saturday when we travel to local rivals Burnham.”

Highbridge started the game very brightly, and when they broke up play in the middle of the park, the ball was laid up the line for Town's Chris Taylor to beat his man and whip in a fine ball across goal for on coming full back Sam Redstone to turn home for his third goal in five games.

Town were looking comfortable on the ball and again after a break down the left, saw Cameron Hampson with a through ball to the electric Taylor, who again crossed for Kane Powell to finish coolly back across goal away from the diving Lion's keeper.

Town really should have put the game to bed before half time with Mike Green smashing against the bar from close distance and Will Bailey's drive cannoned back off the upright in a half that saw Town dominate.

The game was sealed 15 minutes from time when Chris Taylor capped off an impressive performance with the third goal, turning in a Kane Powell cross from the right.

Town take on Burnham United this weekend.
