JEFF Read only entered the popular Lukee Cup on the morning of the event but it was certainly a good late decision as he walked away with the top prize at the presentation.

Over 60 players took part in the shotgun event but no one could match the 41 point haul of Jeff Read.

The powerful long hitting former footballer quickly saw three shots disappear from his handicap as a result of his success in the blustery conditions of Sunday morning.

Second place overall and the leading Division two player was Barrie Tucker with a steady 40 point total whist the top spot in Division One went to Steve Mason with 37.

The only other player to beat his handicap on a tough day for scoring was Paul McLanaghan with 38 but he found the consistent Tucker in his way of top spot.

Suzanne Hatfield led the Ladies event from Ladies Captain Annie Williams.

An overnight frost left the opening nine holes on temporary greens for the Winter League Stableford 24 hours earlier.

Mike Porter ended the day victorious making light of the smaller targets as he amassed 42 points.

Three players handed in 40 point cards with Richard Triscott defeating Matt Haskins and Brian Read for the runners up sweep money.

Pete Douglas won the final Seniors Stableford of 2014 as his 35 point card took top spot on Tuesday morning. George Stratford was the second placed finisher also with a 35 point total but Douglas won it with the better back nine score. Len Young was third on 33.

Two days later the Seniors played their Threeball betterball round of the Winter League.

Playing over the usual 15 holes the winning trio were Barrie Tucker, Charlie Hastie and Ian Welch with an excellent score of 105.

A countback decided the order of the next two teams with Roger Phillips, Mike Haskins and Ken Ponter taking the runners up spot over Dave Benjafield, Barry Fisher and Allen Fellingham after they both had scores of 111.
