BURNHAM darts star Gary Anderson has been crowned world champion following a thrilling 7-6 win over 16-time winner Phil Taylor in Sunday's PDC World Championship final at Alexandra Palace in London.

Anderson had led Taylor 3-1 and 6-4, before 'The Power' fought back to level things at 6-6.

The 44-year-old, who lives in Burnham with his partner Rachel and two sons, Ryan and Joe, won the first leg of the decider and soon capitalised when Taylor missed double 16 in the second to scoop the £250,000 prize.

Anderson sealed the first set with an impressive 121 checkout, but a missed double saw Taylor draw level.

He bounced back in the eighth despite missing bullseye - but when his third dart knocked out his previous two in the ninth, Anderson returned scoreless and lost the first two legs, before bouncing back to win the next three.

Having opened up a 6-4 lead after the tenth, Taylor came roaring back again to level the match at 6-6.

Three missed double 16s by Taylor saw Anderson win the first two legs of the deciding set - and a double 12 completed a remarkable win for the Burnham man, to follow up his victory in the UK Player's Championship in December.
