Western Counties North
Burnham 13, North Bristol 5
BURNHAM recorded a much needed win in their bid to avoid the drop as they beat North Bristol 13-5 on Saturday.
Danny Spelman crossed for Burnham’s only try of the day, while Tim Piper kicked eight points from the tee to give his side their fifth win of the season and pull them out of the bottom three.
Throughout the game Burnham were on the front foot, and even though they elected to play against a strong wind, for the first 20 minutes they were on the offensive.
Against the run of play, North Bristol secured the ball from a penalty line-out, and after four phases they manufactured a hole for their scrum-half to dive through.
Five minutes later, Burnham opted for a scrum from a penalty, and as the ball went out to the backs Spelman muscled his way over for Piper to convert.
Just before half-time, North Bristol transgressed, giving Piper the chance to add three more points.
After the break, Burnham hammered away at the opposition, barely allowing them out of their own half, but try as they might they could not break trough.
Eventually, North Bristol were penalised for kicking the ball away, giving Piper the chance to add a further three points, which turned out to be the last score of the game.
Burnham travel to Chew Valley this weekend – the coach leaves at 11.45am.
