Somerset County Division Two West

Highbridge Town FC 2, Kewstoke Lions 1

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt described Saturday’s victory over promotion-chasing Kewstoke as ‘magnificent’ after his side bounced back from the previous week’s defeat in style.

Mike Green fired home the winner two minutes from time, after Chris Taylor had earlier opened the scoring – and Pitt believes Town were good value for the three points.

He said: “We knew we would have a big job on our hands with Kewstoke going for the league and only losing once all season to us so that must have had a big impact on their preparation, with revenge on their minds and to set the record straight.

“Unfortunately for them we were well up for this game on the back of last week’s defeat, when we did not deserve it and dominated - we knew we could not make the same mistakes against Kewstoke and we did not.

“We matched them in every department and shut them out all game apart from there fluke goal they never threatened at all and the way we responded to go on and win the game was magnificent.”

“Promotion maybe out of the picture now but I firmly believe on our day we will beat anyone in this league and today proved it, we will do all we can to win the cup, which we have a quarte- final fixture to play in March - and look to finish as high as we can this year.

“Fourth is a target which we can achieve, and we will do all we can to achieve.

“We still have Combe St Nicholas and Worle still to come to the REC so we will still have a major part of who wins this league this year.”

Highbridge Town travel to bottom side Weston St Johns Reserves on Saturday.
