Somerset County Division Two West

Cheddar Reserves 1, Burnham Reserves 1

ANTHONY Cleeve's second goal in two games earned Burnham United Reserves a draw at Cheddar Reserves on Saturday.

After losing 2-1 in both the previous two games and leading in both, Burnham Reserves were determined not to let this happen for third week in a row.

In the first half Cheddar used the wind to their advantage and were close to scoring a few times in the opening 20 minutes, but for some last grasp defending and solid goal keeping from 17-year-old Fraser McDiarmid kept the score 0-0.

Burnham defended in numbers and counter attacked at pace at every opportunity.

After 35 minutes, it was from one of these counter attacks that Anthony Cleeve scored his second goal in two games, after a strong run and cross from Russell Holley.

Early in the second-half Joe Selway fell badly and injured his arm and elbow - he was replaced by Daniel Butt. Aaron Hardwidge also injured himself and was replaced by Matt Young, who both worked tirelessly in the middle to break up any Cheddar play.

With 20 minutes to go, another Cheddar corner was turned into his own net by James Ford, who was having an excellent game at centre back.

This spurred Cheddar on and Burnham looked nervy, but stayed strong, learning from previous weeks.

In the last few minutes, the game really opened up and both had chances to win.

Cleeve and Alec Wilkins both shot narrowly wide and Cheddar also had two excellent chances.
