HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt says his players are desperate to avenge January’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Taunton United 1610 when the two sides meet on Saturday.

Ten-man Town conceded a late goal to slip to defeat, in what Pitt has described as their ‘worst performance of the season’ – and the manager is hoping for a response in Saturday’s return fixture.

“I am very much looking forward to this tie,” he said.

“We played Taunton early January and suffered a 2-1 defeat, conceding a late goal in what was, in my opinion our worst performance of the season.

“We were down to ten men after 25 minutes and lost Will Bailey at half time due to his head being cut open, so if we keep our discipline on Saturday and play to our strengths, we will stop their recent good run and leapfrog back above them in the league.

“The lads will know they did not turn up seven weeks ago and will be fully motivated to avenge the loss on our patch this week.

“We have to play each game at a time, racking up as many points as possible and ensure we hit March 14 in good form for our quarter final cup tie versus Imperial - and Saturday will be no different.”

Burnham United’s game against league leaders Staplegrove fell victim to the wet weather – and this weekend they welcome second-place Wells City Reserves to Cassis Close.

Burnham United Reserves’ game at Uphill Castle was also postponed and they will try again this weekend.
