Burnham 60, Stothert & Pitt 19

BURNHAM gave their hopes of survival a much-needed boost with a comprehensive ten-try victory over bottom side Stothert and Pitt.

Josh Holder and Ben Gibb scored two tries a piece, while Luke Gowan, Richard Muskett, Phil Collins, Jordyn Wikiteria, Sam Lewis and Russ Pike also crossed.

This was an important win for Burnham in front of a reasonable sized crowd, celebrating the opening of the new stand (see page __).

Burnham started well, cranking up the pressure until eventually Luke Gowan forced himself over - Piper converted.

Burnham kept their foot on the throttle with Shaw making good ground before releasing Josh Holder to score in the corner.

By this time, Burnham really had the bit between their teeth, resulting in three tries within the space of five minutes - firstly after two penalty line-outs, Richard Muskett streaked through, before Phil Collins crashed through to finish off a neat move.

Wikiteria then scattered the opposition in his own inimitable fashion before releasing Josh Holder to score out wide.

Just before halftime S&P at last managed to cross for their opening try, but the second half saw Burnham’s domination continue.

From a quick penalty Ben Gibb set off on a powerful pacey run to cross the line – and he was able to collect his second try shortly afterwards.

Jordyn Wikiteria then charged over the line for Burnham’s eighth, with Gibb converting – and a few moments later, Sam Lewis took a quick penalty and was rewarded with a well earned try.

Russ Pike ran in from the halfway line to round off proceedings in style, despite a late rally from the visitors.

Burnham are at home to Cheltenham on Saturday, kick-off is 2.30pm.
