Somerset County Division Two West

Nailsea United Reserves 1, Highbridge Town 2

MATT Scott’s late penalty fired Highbridge Town to a hard-fought away win at Nailsea United Reserves on Saturday.

Scott scored twice as Highbridge fought back from a goal down to secure victory, having fallen behind to a first-half spot-kick - and he buried an 85th minute penalty to earn his side their first win in three games.

Manager Matt Pitt felt his side were deserved winners and praised the players ‘for not giving up.’ “I thought we started nervously and allowed them to control the game but once we got into our groove we never looked back,” he said.

“Apart from the penalty our ‘keeper Steve Bailey never had a shot to save and all credit to the boys who never stopped or gave up in the second half got there rewards in the end.”

Nailsea took the lead early on with Sam Redstone drawing a foul in the box - the United player stepped up and dispatched past Town’s keeper Steve Bailey who returned from his three-match suspension.

It took Town all of 35 minutes to put together their first piece of good football and levelled with Hampson and Bailey winning the ball back and finding Taylor to turn and thread a lovely defence splitting pass onto Matt Scott, who raced clear to slot the ball past the keeper.

Highbridge who had dominated the second period and in the 85th minute, Bailey once again picked the ball up and drove at the United defence - and this time there was no doubt when he was brought down inside the box.

Up stepped Scott to double his tally for the afternoon and earn Town three well deserved points.
