HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt wants his side to sign off the season in style when they take on league champions Combe St Nicolas at the REC on Saturday.

Highbridge currently sit in fourth place in Division Two West and can strengthen their hold on the position with victory at the weekend – however, the two sides below them, Kewstoke Lions and Taunton United, both have games in hand.

But manager Pitt wants his side to follow Combe’s lead next season and challenge for higher honours at the top of the division.

Pitt said: “Our final game of the season is at home to champions Combe St Nicolas at the REC.

“Combe are where we want to be this time next season and if we want to have any chance of fourth spot, we need to win this game on Saturday.

“This season has been a great experience for all involved with the first team - and a massive learning curve that we hope to end on a high by taking the scalp of the champions in our final game.”

Town have won 13 of their 25 games in their first season in the County League, drawing six and losing six – and can be more than satisfied with their efforts.

But Pitt wants more from his side and firmly believes they can challenge for the title next season.

Combe on the other hand, sealed the title with a 4-3 win at Nailsea United Reserves on Saturday and have now won 21 of their 24 games this season, losing the other three.
