BOTH Brean Golf Club Avalon League teams had home games on Sunday and both sides won by the same 3-2 margin.

The Division Six side were ‘first into bat’ as they faced a local derby against Isle of Wedmore which they eventually just shaded in their favour.

Following on were the Division Two side against Cricket St Thomas, formerly Windwhistle, and they also recorded a win but by the narrowest of margins.

Also on Sunday the Super Series qualifying period came to an end with the final round in which points could be gained for the overall table.

Ian Adams was the winner on 40 points ahead of Tony Bissett and Pete Dunn on 38.

Bissett was awarded secnd place on countback with the superior back nine.

Roger Phillips was the only player to top the 40 point mark on Saturday in the County Golfer Challenge stableford.

On a day when the forecast rain never arrived he scored 41 points to win by two and also reduce his handicap by the same amount.

He now moves forward to represent Brean in the Regional Final at Honiton Golf Club in early August. Second place was taken by Nigel Hodges on 39 and he also saw his handicap dropped by a shot as a reward. In third place was Ron Vine on 38 ahead of Gordy Wheelaghan on 37.

Roger Vaughan also scored 37 in fifth but missed out to Wheelaghan on a back nine countback.

The Seniors only managed a draw in the home leg of their annual match against Fosseway.

The match now stills at three games apiece ahead of the second leg at the Midsomer Norton venue later in the year.

Fosseway currently hold the Shield and the Brean team will now have a tough job to wrestle that back over the short nine-hole layout at Fosseway.
