Burnham 190-9 lost to Barrington 220-5 by 30 runs

AN impressive all-round display from Brian Brogden wasn’t enough for Burnham as they slumped to a 30-run reverse at home to Barrington on Saturday.

Veteran Brogden took 4-55 from ten overs before finishing up 20 not out with the bat, but Burnham came up well short of the target set by the visitors.

Jim Bloodworth (30) and Ed Booth (27) top scored for the hosts, but too many players made starts without going on to play a match-winning innings, to condemn Burnham to a fifth defeat of the season.

Batting first, Barrington posted 220-5 thanks mainly to half-centuries from G French (67) and T Towill (54).

S Redwood (44) also chipped in at the top of the order, while some late hitting from S Gerring (16no) took Barrington to a competitive total.

The Burnham reply began in disastrous fashion, as Pete Harris (0), D Worthington (5) and Rob Driver (0) fell early on.

Brad House (22) briefly rebuilt the innings, but the wickets continued to tumble as both J Harding (7) and House were dismissed in quick succession.

Bloodworth and Booth finally put up some stronger resistance – and when the latter was out to the bowling of J Brain, Toby Keast (26) picked up where he had left off.

Burnham passed the 150 mark and now looked set to mount a serious challenge to the Barrington total – but another flurry of wickets saw both set batsmen depart, leaving Brogden and S Green (17no) to see out the innings in a losing cause.

Burnham host Westlands on Saturday before travelling to Castle Cary the following weekend.
