Sedgemoor Two

Taunton Civil Service 0 Burnham 2

BURNHAM'S victory against TCS was all the more remarkable considering they had to play the whole match one player short.

Despite this they started really brightly and although they tired in the second-half, were resilient right to the end.

They created numerous chances before taking the lead midway through the half.

Ellie Bishop combined well down the right - as they did all game - with Imogen Wright and in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, slotted the ball coolly under her.

Captain Sarah Johnson made a quick and early tactical change, realising that Burnham could play more attacking and pushed Carly Bush up on to the forward line.

This created more space in midfield and Sam Course and Chelsea Fisher made the most of this down the left.

All three centre backs - Course, Wright and Nicki Glanville - were superb throughout, solid and composed at the back and along with goalkeeper Sian Kelly, who never looked like conceding.

They were calm and distributed the ball well and linked positively with midfield.

Bishop had the beating of her marker and caused all sorts of problems for TCS defence creating chances for Bush and Caroline Hunt in the D. Louise Peace was excellent in midfield using the ball well and backing up the attack at every opportunity.

Johnson looked commanding in midfield, switching the play at every opportunity and supporting the defence when Burnham lost the ball.

Bush almost got on the end of a couple of her defence splitting passes and worked tirelessly making selfless runs for her team.

Kelly made a couple of vital saves to keep Burnham ahead but despite a period of sustained pressure, TCS could not breach the blues defence.

Johnson capped a fine performance with a deserved goal right at the end of the match.

A perfectly worked short corner routine saw Hunt strike towards goal and Johnson came steaming in from where she had injected the ball, to connect with it on the post where it flashed past the goalkeeper.

This gave the match a more realistic score line as Burnham were the better team on the whole.

Training is now slightly later on Mondays at King Alfreds - juniors 7-8pm and seniors from 8-9pm. All welcome.

Burnham's next match is on October 24 against Winscombe, 10am start.
