Somerset Division Two West
Highbridge Town 4 Clevedon United Reserves 4
HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt said the attitude and heart shown by his players during Saturday’s 4-4 draw with Clevedon United was ‘tremendous’ and showed they are capable of competing at a higher level.
Matt Scott netted a hat-trick for Highbridge, including a last-gasp equaliser, against a United side that included a number of first team players, after their Premier Division fixture was postponed.
Pitt said: “It was a really entertaining game for the neutral but as a club we are still disappointed this still happens, where a first team has a game postponement and they flood the reserves with first team players, but the attitude and heart shown by my lads was tremendous and we thoroughly deserved the point and should have won the game with the chances we had.
“I just hope the two dropped points does not hamper us come end of season, but what it did confirm to me is that we are more than capable of competing at the highest level.
“Some of the football we played on Saturday was fantastic and with more players coming into the squad there is not a team we fear in this division and thoroughly expect to be in the top two come end of season.
“It was great to see such a team performance with heart and no quit and with Will and Tom Bailey back and Matty Scott back in the mix scoring goals, we will go into next week’s league game against Worle in high spirits and confidence.”
