Tribute Western Counties North

Burnham on Sea 13 Chosen Hill Former Pupils 29

POOR tackling and ill-discipline saw Burnham slump to a third successive defeat in Western Counties North, at the hands of Chosen Hill Former Pupils.

Richard Muskett crossed for Burnham’s only try of the afternoon, against a side one place below them in the table.

Tim Piper kept the scoreboard ticking with two penalties and a conversion, but a sloppy defensive effort proved costly for Burnham.

Chosen Hill opened the scoring early on when the referee awarded them a penalty try and the visitors took a 7-0 lead.

Shortly after, Burnham dug themselves a deeper hole as more poor defensive work allowed their opponents to cross the line twice in quick succession.

Both tries were converted, before Piper kicked two good penalties against the wind to redress the balance, leaving Burnham in with a slim chance.

The home side headed into the second half with the strengthening wind behind them, but somebody forgot to tell Burnham and instead of kicking the ball down the field, they kept trying to run it, even from their own 22.

When they did manage to lay siege to their opponent's line, they contrived to either lose control or commit a misdemeanour - apart from a smart move in the backline which saw a reverse pass enable Richard Muskett to cross the line.

Piper converted, but Chosen Hill capitalised on Burnham's inability to play in their opponent's half by scoring another try and adding a penalty goal to run out winners.

Burnham travel to Cheltenham on Saturday for their final game of 2015.
