Sedgemoor Two

Taunton Vale 1 Burnham 7

BURNHAM gained another valuable three points with this convincing win over their bottom of the table opponents.

Despite the score line it was a scrappy affair at times, especially in the first half when Burnham were sloppy with their passing and could never quite shake off an energetic Vale.

Captain Sarah Johnson opened the scoring with a super strike, after driving powerfully into the D and Caroline Hunt doubled it moments later with her own well struck shot from top of the D.

Vale came back into it with a quick breakaway goal and Burnham were thankful for goalkeeper Sian Kelly's fine form between the posts, as she stopped them conceding an equaliser on several occasions.

Louise Peace was having a great game down Burnham's strong right side, linking well with Kerry Harvey and Imogen Wright and providing plenty of ammunition into the D.

The Blues should have been much further ahead by half time, but had to wait until just before the interval to get a third.

June England was perfectly placed to slot home Hunt's accurate cross.

Burnham scored straight from the restart with a brilliant move between Harvey and Hunt, but this was eventually disallowed after a mix up between the umpires in starting the half.

Hunt was not to be denied though and scored their next two goals, benefitting from more good work by Peace and Harvey to complete her hat-trick.

Carly Bush finally got on the score sheet with a tap in after her initial shot, then Hunt's, had been saved by the goalkeeper in a goalmouth scramble.

Wright found Chelsea Fisher with a nice ball out of defence, who in turn played a lovely pass into the D to Bush. Her shot was saved again but Hunt was alive to the rebound to claim her fourth and Burnham's magnificent seventh.

Burnham travel to Weston-super-Mare on March Saturday (March 12).
