SOMERSET Rebels team boss Garry May insists there will be no let-up in the chase for Premier League points – despite already securing their place in the Championship-deciding play-offs.

The Rebels guaranteed a top-two finish with victory over Plymouth at the weekend and are currently gearing up for their trips to Workington (Saturday), Newcastle (Sunday) and Berwick (Monday).

All three are re-arranged fixtures after the original dates were postponed earlier in the season.

Both Workington and Newcastle harbour ambitions of a top-six finish in the Premier League table in order to join the playoffs – while both teams are also unbeaten at home in the league.

“There will be no let up,” said May. “We need one further league point in order to guarantee that we will finish the regular league season at the top.

“Both Workington and Newcastle are looking to further their claims for a top six playoff place; in fact Newcastle are also vying for a top-two finish which is important as the teams finishing first and second in the league table receive a bye directly into the semi-final stages of the playoffs.

“Despite the fact that Berwick would appear to have little to play for as far as any honours this year are concerned, they will be keen to put on a good show in front of their fans in Monday night’s match, so we cannot take anything for granted.

“So we are, no doubt, in for a tough weekend, but it is one that I feel we can come away with some more league points and, in doing so, cement our place at the top of the table.”
