West Clubs Sedgemoor Division 1
Burnham Ladies 5, Yeovil & Sherborne 2
THIS has to go down as Burnham’s best performance and result so far this season against second-placed opposition who thrashed them by almost the same score earlier in the campaign.
Every member of the team was at the top of their game and gave a controlled and measured display, to the delight of their coach.
It all seemed impossible after the Blues conceded a goal within seconds, from Yeovil’s first attack.
But four minutes later they were 2-1 up.
Kerry Harvey and Amy Edmundson combined to force a short corner, Louise Peace pushed out to Caroline Hunt, and she slipped it to Carly Bush to finish with a super reverse strike.
ON THE ATTACK: Burnham launch another foray forward.
Edmundson then put Burnham in front after Harvey’s dynamic run down the right.
Burnham were pressing Yeovil all over the pitch and Hattie Lambourne capitalised on another mistake, intercepting a pass, driving into the D and rounding the keeper for a superb solo goal.
Just before half time, Yeovil pulled a goal back, but the second period was just as impressive from Burnham.
Defenders Emma Ballard, Nicki Glanville and Imogen Wright, and GK Sian Kelly, were magnificent.
Burnham then hit Yeovil on the counter-attack, with two great goals.
Harvey tapped in from another dazzling Edmundson run, and Edmundson capped a red hot display with a stunning solo effort.
POM: Tracey Dunn.
- ON Saturday Burnham travel to ECVH (11am start).
