WITH the annual Car Rally taking place at the Leisure Park over the weekend, the Brean members went on their travels for the weekend.

Club captain Andy Thomas was the big winner at the Car Rally Trophy on Sunday, played for the third year running at Cumberwell Park.

He had the best individual score on a wet day in Wiltshire and then was drawn with ‘event specialist’ Nigel Hodges to win the main Trophy for the blind pairs stableford.

Thomas contributed an impressive 39 points to the winning total and Hodges added another 36, as he recorded his third win in recent years in the popular event.

Second place went to Murray Parsons and Russell Shaw, who shared their 72-point total evenly, ahead of Pete Barton (35) and club pro Andrew March (34), with 69 for third.

2015 captain Stuart Wills matched Thomas’ 39-point haul but lost out on the back nine, and finished fourth with Alec Bateman in the Pairs.

Twenty Brean members went to Burnham’s nine-hole course on Saturday morning, and Dave Bradley won with 36 points.

Vince Ford finished strongly to place second, ahead of Matt Haskins in third.
