Somerset County League Premier Division
Clevedon United 3, Berrow 0

BERROW dropped into the bottom two of the Somerset County League Premier Division after falling to a defeat against fellow relegation battlers Clevedon on Saturday.

The visitors survived two let-offs early on when Dan Jones and Andy Cooper both hit the bar with headers, though Berrow did have the ball in the back of the net themselves only to see their effort ruled out for offside.

The first goal was always going to be crucial in this six-pointer, and Clevedon scored it just past the hour mark when Jones scored a penalty after being bundled over in the area.

Jones doubled his team’s lead and his individual tally shortly afterwards before Ben Keen made the points safe with a third late on.

Berrow have now lost their last eight league matches and will have to turn their fortunes around soon if they are to avoid the dreaded drop.

Somerset County League Division 1W
Cleeve West Town 2, Highbridge Town 2

AFTER two thumping defeats that saw them concede 18 goals, Highbridge stopped the rot with a hard-earned point at Cleeve West Town on Saturday.

Highbridge opened the scoring on 21 minutes through Chris Taylor, who broke through and slotted past home goalkeeper Alex Cook.

The visitors were not in the lead for long, however, as Clayton Matthews levelled the scores with a volley from the edge of the penalty area, but Highbridge went into the interval in front as Taylor netted his second from a tight angle.

Highbridge were under siege in the second half as the hosts searched for an equaliser, and eventually Cleeve’s pressure told when Aaron Gibbs slotted home the rebound after Mike Taylor’s free-kick was parried away.
