Somerset League Division 1W
Portishead Town Reserves 3, Burnham United 2

BURNHAM went to the league leaders full of confidence from their recent form, fielding an unchanged line up for the third time in a row.

United went ahead in the seventh minute when Charlie Harding sent Matt Scott through down the right and Scott crossed for Mike Stevens to slot home.

Burnham could have doubled the lead when Joe Selway put Stevens through but the Portishead keeper saved well.

Portishead levelled on the half hour and were 2-1 up minutes later, scoring a penalty after a hand ball.

Burnham were unlucky not to equalise when Harding shot wide from Selway’s pull back on the right just before half-time.

United began the second half strongly looking for an equaliser.

Scott was unlucky with a header that struck the post from an Ed Lamb cross but Burnham’s hard work was rewarded in the 55th minute when a Selway free-kick was headed home by captain Russell Holley.

This shook the league leaders as Burnham looked the likelier team to grab the winner with Harrison Kidner hitting the bar 10 minutes from time to nearly put Burnham ahead.

However, it was Portishead who scored the winner in the final minute from a long throw which bounced kindly for their striker to shoot home from a flick-on, totally against the run of play.

Man of the match: Finley Wilkinson.
