BREAN captain Dave Porter led his Men’s team to victory over Jenny Vaughan’s Ladies in the annual Bone of Contention match on a sunny Saturday.

The match, as always, was hotly contested with a few tricks tried in an attempt to benefit one side or the other!

As it turned out the Men were victorious in the aggregate stableford scoring system that was used and they keep hold of the trophy for another year.

DAVE Glasby was the winner of the Super Series stableford also played on Saturday.

He scored 39 points to win after a countback with Pete Dunn.

Glasby had the better back nine of the duo but Dunn had the consolation of taking over at the top of the points table with his runners up finish. Nigel Ellis was third on 38.

TEXAS Scramble specialists Andy Thomas, Paul McLanaghan, Martyn Cahill and Stuart Wills teamed up to win the Gordon Phippen Trophy on Sunday.

The quartet are no strangers to success in this format of the game, hence their self-proclaimed title of the ‘Dream Team’, and yet again proved their strength as they returned a winning nett score of 56.8.

Runners up 0.8 of a shot behind were Chris Fairchild, Mike Carter, Nigel Ellis and Gordy Wheelaghan with their score of 57.6 with Graham Foy, Bob Masterman, Mel Brown and Nigel Hodges taking third on 58.2.

AT Enmore Park, new captain Neil Whisler started his year by driving straight down the middle with a slight draw, well above the ridge on the first hole, as a lively crowd watched and cheered.

The morning competition was a closely-fought shotgun start Texas Scramble competition with a full field of talented golfers.

The afternoon team event with best lady and best men’s score to count was won with 90 points.

Phil and Kay Taylor were the victors, assisted by Hannah Grant and Steve Woodley.
