Berrow 4, Wrington Redhill 0

BERROW ended a disappointing campaign on a high as they thumped Wrington Redhill 4-0 at home on Saturday.

The writing was already on the wall for the hosts, however, as they had been consigned to relegation following last weekend’s 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Shirehampton.

Saturday’s victory did at least take Berrow off the foot of the table, but that will be scant consolation after a campaign that has seen them win just seven of their 32 matches.

A run of 10 straight league defeats either side of Christmas was particularly damaging to the club, but it was the failure to fulfil a fixture at Staplegrove which ultimately cost them their league status, as that landed them with a three point deduction.

They did win the rearranged fixture, but ended the season two points adrift of safety, an agonising deficit given the earlier punishment.

Berrow will now be playing Division 1W football next season alongside near neighbours Burnham United and Highbridge Town, who finished eighth and 10th, respectively, this season.

Berrow Reserves, meanwhile, rounded off their season away at Yatton Athletic Reserves on Tuesday evening.

The side will finish sixth whatever the outcome, but they went into the match looking to continue their momentum after an 8-1 win over Winscombe A last Tuesday.
