BURNHAM-ON-SEA Cricket Club enjoyed a successful start to their Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League Division 2 campaign with a six-wicket victory at Winscombe.

P. Grant took 4-50 and C. Scriven and P. Harris each claimed a wicket apiece as Winscombe made 226-6 from their 45 overs, an innings dominated by J. Cureton’s 82.

In reply, Burnham made a solid start before a dominant and unbroken fifth wicket stand between R. Driver (79*) and B. House (62*) saw the visitors to a comfortable opening day victory.

Burnham take 31 points from the victory and now host Bridgwater 3rds on Saturday.

In Division 4, Lympsham & Belvedere came out on top against near neighbours Huntspill & District, while three sides from the region were in Division 6N action.

Wedmore edged to victory against Temple Cloud 2nds, chasing down 127 with just one wicket to spare largely thanks to A. Peters’ unbeaten 43.

L. Holmes smashed 181 and wicketkeeper Matt Edwards chipped in with 56 for East Huntspill as they racked up 356-9 against Glastonbury 2nds.

Kieron Stamp and Robert Pomeroy each claimed two wickets in reply as the hosts closed out a convincing 173-run victory.

A solid batting display saw Burnham 2nds defeat their Winscombe counterparts, with all three Burnham batsmen reaching half centuries as the hosts ended on 201-1.

L. Gowan then took 5-34 as Burnham won by 88 runs.
