Shapwick & Polden 2s 147-9 beat Burnham 138 all out by nine runs
BURNHAM’S mixed start to the season continued, as they fell nine runs short of overhauling hosts Shapwick & Polden 2nds.
Shapwick opener J. Spearing made a solid 40, but he lost Josh Luckins for 5 and W. Rudge for 16.
Middle order batsmen O. White and T. Smith made 15 apiece, but the hosts were under pressure from the Burnham attack, and of those lower down only Jacques Luckins (14) and T. Barr (12no) managed double figures.
The star of Burnham’s bowling was J. Harding, who took 4-23, and he was ably backed up by M. Winton (2-20) and P. Harris (2-32).
The visitors needed 148 to win, but their reply got off the a stuttering start as Harris was out for 15, D. Worthington for 4 and R. Driver for 7.
The middle order of K. Carlson (17), B. House (22) and Winton (38) tipped the balance back towards Burnham, only for the remainder of the side to run out of steam.
Only Harding (13no) made much impression on the scoreboard as they were all out for 138, nine runs short.
Shapwick’s five bowlers took two wickets each.
Burnham sit sixth in the Division 2 table, after two wins and three losses, and they are 20 points clear of the bottom two.
