THE Boom Boom Cup, played in memory of Keith Porter, became the Broom Broom Cup on Saturday as a trio of Brooms, and Pro shop assistant Jordan Hills, took victory.

The quartet only assembled their side on Friday as father and son Roger and Tom were joined by Hills and late on Friday, thanks to work commitments allowing, Dan joined the side that was to enjoy success.

They carded a nett score of 54.9 to win by the narrowest of margins from two teams who posted nett 55’s.

A countback was needed to decide that the Lismore brothers Byron and Scott along with Adam Cox and Rich Lambert would be the runners up with the better back nine.

Another family connection featured in the third place team as father and daughter Steve and Millie Jones joined forces with Pete Barton and Eamonn Wynne to take bronze.

Reigning champions Gordy Wheelaghan, Chris Fairchild, Roger and Jenny Vaughan finished in fourth spot in their defence of the Trophy.

Nigel Hodges was the victor of the 6th round of this year’s Super Series with an excellent 43 point total on Sunday morning. On a day of low scoring despite the breezy conditions Hodges won by 2 from Pete Dunn.

Mark Jenkins made a welcome return to form with a 40 point return to take third place ahead of no less than 8 players who finished on 39 points.

Martyn Cahill and Club Professional Andrew March represented Brean in the Regional Final of the National Pro Am for the Lombard Trophy at Burnham & Berrow on Thursday.

Cahill won the qualifier at Brean earlier in the season and joined his club pro attempting to win a trip to the Grand Final in Portugal.

Teeing off in the opening group they posted a 1 under par 70 which surprisingly kept them up around the top echelons of the leaderboard for most of the day.

The breeze blew but despite some generous tee positions most pairings seemed the struggle on the links.

A few of the later starters managed to pass them though dropping them down to a still very respectable tie for 7th in a field of over 60 clubs.

Gail Mason won the Ladies June Stableford with a 36 point card.

She finished the event with a single point advantage over Debbie Windmill with Beverly Cranley taking third.

The Brean Seniors took on their near northerly neighbours from Weston Super Mare on Thursday.

In some blustery but much cooler conditions they won by 4.5 games to 1.5 and will now prepare for the return match at Weston in around a months time.

Bob Smith won the Midweek Stableford on another blisteringly hot day.

The early starter carded 41pts to beat Adam Cox’s steady late effort of 40 points which left the 11 handicapper in the runners up spot. Third place went to Kevin White on 39.
