Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League
Division 2
Taunton 134 v Burnham 48-2 (no result)

BURNHAM bowler James Annison starred with the ball before rain caused an early end to their Shrubbery League Division 2 match at Taunton 2nds on Saturday.

Taunton batted first in the soggy conditions and Burnham tore straight into the hosts, with R. Godfrey (2) and R. Devassy (0) falling early.

Jon Kerslake steadied the ship with a vital 38, but Burnham continued to chip away with regular wickets as all the bowlers enjoyed themselves.

Annison was the standout, taking 5-12 from 7.4 overs, while A. Birkett took 3-22.

Paul Grant and C. Scriven ended with identical figures of 1-35 from nine, while Pete Harris conceded just 22 runs from seven economical overs as Taunton were bowled out for 134.

As their hosts had done earlier in the day, Burnham lost two early wickets as D. Worthington fell for a duck before E. Lewis (4) departed shortly afterwards.

Harris and Brad House joined forces to take Burnham to 48-2, ending unbeaten on 18 and 22 respectively before rain spoiled any prospects of closing out the victory.

Burnham claimed 24 points from the abandoned match, with Taunton salvaging 20, and the visitors now sit fifth in the table after their first washout of the season.

They will be hoping for better conditions this weekend as they host Chard 2nds, who are bottom of the table having won just once all season going into Saturday’s encounter.
