ENMORE travelled to Mendip Springs in the Avalon League and produced a fine team performance to win 11-4.

On Sunday, they visited Mendip and produced another fine 14-2 win.

Colin Gilbraith and Angie Bowden won the Mixed Summer League and then scored 42 points to win the Rigler plate on finals day, beating Kev And Chris Lewis on 40 pts and Rob Fear and Jackie Bull, who also scored 40.

Both Senior sections, Men’s and Ladies’, took part in the annual battle for The Croad Shield.

A large field of 11 four balls, led by Lady President Carolynn Blackwood and Men’s captain David Pascoe, keenly contested the match.

At one stage the outcome was looking close with the Men only up 5-3; but the final three groups all registered male victories leaving the final outcome 8-3, resulting in the Shield winners of 2016, the Ladies, presenting it to the Gentlemen.

Ladies’ winning pairs were Julie Blumgart/Carol Robinson, Judy Hancock/Janet Hambley and Annette Rigler/Hilary Cockcroft.

For the men, David Pascoe/Graham Pain, Mike Sullivan/Peter Sherry, Kevin Lewis/Chris Sammons, Steve James/Keith Norcutt, John Rigler/Mark Saxton, Mike Cavill/Peter Scott, Tony Pomeroy/Bev Dovey and Roger Anniss/Ray Lukeski all registered wins.

BREAN Seniors’ August Stableford has been won by Barrie Tucker, who produced the standout round of the day with a 41-point total.

This was the leading score in Division One and also the best score overall by three points as he reduced his handicap to 11.

His nearest challenger was Pete Douglas, who led a trio of 38 points scores with the better back nine to take second spot.

John Cranley and Barrie Yearsley were the other 38s and finished third and fourth, respectively.

Had any of those been in Division Two they would have been celebrating victory but, as it was, John Hale continued his good run of form by taking that award with 36.

Following up on his win at the recent away day, Hale accumulated his winning score despite not scoring on three holes.

He was one clear of Tony Romeo, who started his day very brightly with an eagle two at the first in his 35-point round.

Brean Seniors travelled away on Thursday for a match with their Cannington counterparts.

They certainly enjoyed their visit as they produced possibly their best performance of the season as they whitewashed their hosts 6-0.

The August Ladies Stableford was won by Lyn Bird with 36 points.

The reigning Ladies’ Club Champion continued her excellent run of form this year as she enjoyed a healthy winning margin from Beverly Cranley and Gail Mason. Cranley won a back nine countback to secure second spot.

The Avalon League season is drawing to a close and both teams were in action on Saturday.

The Division 3 side concluded their 2017 campaign as they travelled to league leaders Oake Manor.

Knowing only a 5-0 whitewash of their hosts would leave them with any chance of winning the title, the team came mighty close to achieving the desired result.

As it ended, they won the game 3-2 but both defeats came in close games on the home green.

They now lie second in the points table but, with Enmore holding games in hand, they might slip one place further down depending on their results.

The Division 5 side, though, have the title within their grasp as they enter their final match of the season away to Long Sutton.

After going down to Wheathill 4-1 on Saturday they need to win three games in that tie to assure themselves of the title.

The crucial game is played next Saturday and a strong team is being assembled to, hopefully, bring a League Championship title back to Brean.

Back at Brean over the weekend, honours in the 12th event of this year’s Super Series went to Ian Rogers.

The 23 handicapper scored a +4 total on Saturday in the Bogey competition to win by one from Trevor Guy and Nigel Ellis.

After a countback between the duo, Guy was awarded the runners-up spot.

Twenty-four hours later, Gross Club Champion Matt Shaw and the Nett winner Dan Reason combined to perfection to record a stunning 54-point total in the Pro Shop Betterball Stableford.

Shaw contributed three twos to the total as well as other birdies while Reason used his shots very well to rack up their sizeable score.

The highlight was probably Shaw’s eagle two at the 15th coming courtesy of a holed pitch shot!

They won by six from Tony Groves and Kevin Davies with Ladies’ Champion Lyn Bird and Debbie Windmill finishing third on 46 after a countback with Mike and Ty Jamieson.

Trevor Guy was the big winner of the Midweek Stableford as he carded 40 points for a one-point winning margin over Trevor Searle.

He also benefited from collecting the ‘double rollover’ Twos pot after the birdied the 7th hole.

EUROPEAN Seniors Tour winner George Ryall has won his first West pro-am for two years with a three-under-par 67 at Weymouth.

The 58-year-old teaching professional at Burnham & Berrow last tasted success at Oake Manor.

On a windy day in two torrential showers he played his usual steady game with birdies at the sixth, seventh, 13th and 14th.
