Former head coach Vinny Duddy said: “This is a fantastic offer - a brand new Babolat Tennis Racket and balls, an easy to care for personalised T-shirt and six hour-long lessons for £25 is great value for money.”

The Avenue Tennis Club is situated in The Grove, North Burnham (TA8 2PA) and has eight floodlit tennis courts and a fantastic clubhouse with a bar, wi-fi and superb changing facilities for all; details of which can be found on their website www,avenuetennis.com or visit their facebook site.

The club has a month’s free membership offer available for anyone who wants to try out tennis and the club before joining.

Qualified coaches provide coaching throughout the week for all ages and abilities.

There are various social tennis sessions organised throughout the week or, for those who want competitive tennis, there are two women’s and three men’s teams who compete in the North Somerset Tennis League.

ON the court, the Avenue Tennis Club A and C teams competed in their sixth of ten North Somerset Tennis League matches on Monday while most of the nation were watching England take on Tunisia in the World Cup.

The match format sees a team of four players, playing doubles as an A & B pair against each other in the best of three sets per rubber.

The Avenue A team were beaten by a very strong and competent Congresbury team, who arrived sat top of the league and stayed there with their 10-0 win.

Both Congresbury teams were just too strong and clinical, finishing off points when they had the chance and making Avenue play one more shot when they were put under pressure.

Results: Avenue A (Marcus Buncombe and Zach Stitch) - lost to A team 2-6, 0-6; lost to B team 0-6, 1-6; Avenue B (Vinny Duddy and Sam Stead) - lost to B team 2-6, 3-6; lost to A team 6-7, 3-6

Avenue C beat Weston C 9-2 on the evening, losing one of the rubbers.

Results: Avenue A (Richard Belfield and Ian Howard) - beat A team 7-5, 6-4; beat B team 6-4, 6-1; Avenue B (Ian Phillips and Neil Kirsopp) - beat B team 7-5, 6-3; lost to A team 2-6, 6-3, 3-6
