One-day series - match four

England 314-4 beat Australia 310-8 by six wickets

SOMERSET seamer Craig Overton made his England ODI debut as the hosts went 4-0 up in the one-day series against Australia with one match to play

Overton was called into the squad on Wednesday, along with Sam Curran, and put straight into the side in place of the rested Liam Plunkett.

The match was something of a dead rubber, with England carrying an unassaible up in the five-match series, but represented a good chance for Overton to show what he can do as he looks to seize his opportunity in the senior set-up and keep himself in the picture ahead of next summer's World Cup.

It did not go all his own way with the ball, as Overton went wicketless and conceded 55 runs in his seven overs, with Aaron Finch (100) in particular taking the attack to the debutant.

The 24-year-old was involved in the field at the death, however, taking two catches - the second of which was a superb team effort on the boundary as Jason Roy flicked it back over the rope for Overton - as Australia finished their innings on 310-8.

Overton was not required with the bat as Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow again flew out the traps, Roy completing his second successive century before falling for 101.

Jos Buttler struck an unbeaten 54 from 29 balls to complete the job and see England home by six wickets.

The series concludes at Old Trafford on Sunday.
