THE second Sunday of every month sees Ian Howard of Avenue Tennis Club run a fun, friendly mixed doubles tournament at the club, called Ian’s Sunday Service.

As a mixed doubles format with players changing partners after a timed match period, this is a good way to get to know some new people while having fun on the court.

This month’s winners were Suzanne Harper and Richard Belfield.

The club has a month’s free membership offer available for anyone who wants to try out tennis and the club before joining.

Qualified coaches provide coaching throughout the week for all ages and abilities.

In association with the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), the club will be supporting the Great British Tennis Weekend on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, from 1pm to 4pm, with their coaching team providing free coaching and fun games.

Avenue tennis coach Vinny Duddy asks all the mums, dads, grannies and grampies reading this to bring along their kids and their kids’ kids.

Avenue will also be running the Centenary Burnham-on-Sea Tennis Open, which is a LTA Grade 3 tournament, for all juniors and adults, running daily from August 12 to August 18.

This year’s event is the 100th edition run by the club, and sees some of the top players in both the county and country competing to earn LTA ranking, rating points and prizemoney.

There is free entry for spectators; a special hog roast will be available on Friday evening (August 18) - all are welcome.

The club is situated in The Grove, TA8 2PA and has eight floodlit tennis courts and clubhouse with a bar, wi-fi and changing facilities.
