THIRTY-FOUR Enmore Park seniors made the scenic journey to the Torquay club for the 2017 captain’s “Away Day”, hosted by David Pascoe.

On a blistering hot day, teams of three competed for the ‘John Patterson’ trophy as well as each individual aiming to win the ‘King Cup’.

The team trophy was won by Mike Taylor, Keith Calvert and Doug Read, while Mike Sullivan picked up the King Cup.

Enmore's Seniors Avalon side extended their lead of the West Division with a 4-1 home win against neighbours Taunton & Pickeridge in perfect golfing conditions on Thursday evening.

Only Tim Humphreys and Phil Paris saved the visitors’ blushes whilst the home points were secured by Rossiter & Westbury, Clapp & Whisler, Fear & Lazenby and a strong performance from Maclennan & Martin.

Enmore are now on the road for their remaining three matches in the hunt for a semi-final spot in defence of the title they have won for the last two years.

Jeanne Leader’s Ladies’ Captain’s Day at Taunton & Pickeridge saw 51 ladies taking in a 1-2-3 Waltzing Bowmaker.

Val Hayward, Katy Davies and Jenny Bevan carried the day with 79 points, three ahead of Marlene Ewens, Margaret Blackaller and Alicia Symes, while Jackie Lynn, Jackie Pike and Senga Westwater came third with 75.

Ten Ladies played under par when they took part in the Ladies’ President’s Putter competition at Enmore last week.

Linda Anniss was the winner with a nett 67, Diane Dee was second with 69 while Wendy Walker was third on 69.

Enmore Ladies were in Rogers Cup action on Sunday when they played against Wheathill in the third round of the competition at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club.

It was a very close encounter, with all matches going to the 17th or 18th holes.

At the end of the event it was Wheathill who ran out the winners 4-3 with Hannah Woodley, Eve Bolton and Shanni Whisler all winning their matches.

Thirteen-year-old Theo Culverhouse won the individual prize in the final round of the league match that was played at Mendip Spring Golf Club last weekend.

The 18 handicapper, who lives in Staplegrove and attends Bishop Fox’s School, in Taunton, scored 42 points.

Culverhouse, who has been playing golf for a couple of years and graduated through the Academy programme, wasn’t the only success story on the day.

He was joined by Olly Thomas – third with 37 – and Will Andrews – fifth with 36 points.

Overall, Enmore Juniors came third in the Somerset Juniors Golf League.

On Sunday, Enmore Park hosted Lyme Regis in a Mixed Greensomes and, at the end of some closely-fought matches, it was the home team who triumphed 6-1.

IAN Adams, Barrie Tucker and Roger Phillips combined to perfection to win the Bowmaker Trophy at Brean on Saturday.

They all scored well on the holes when it really mattered, to total an impressive 120.

The trio won the trophy by two from Graham Foy, Nigel Hodges and Andy Chapple.

In what was a low-scoring event, a score of 124 was only good enough for third place for Matt Shaw, Jeff Read and Andy Thomas.

Ladies captain elect Lyn Bird continued her summer of excellent golf with a win in the July Medal.

That success also saw her handicap reduced by another stroke, as her nett 66 gave her a five-stroke cushion over runner-up Liz Blackwell.

Third place was taken by Carole Short on 72.

Pete Douglas was awarded the Phil Fudge Trophy after a close finish in the Seniors July Medal.

Both Douglas and Bill Marlow handed in nett 64s in Division 1, so the countback rules were applied, with Douglas having the better back nine score to take victory.

Mel Brown was the third-placed finisher with a nett 66.

Brown would have tasted success in Division 2, though, as a nett 68 was the winning score in that flight.

That belonged to Roger Phillips, who ended the day one clear of Vincent Ford.

Ian Raymond was third with his nett 70 return.

The Seniors lost in the away leg of the FosseBrean Trophy by four games to two last Tuesday.

Thanks to their comprehensive win at home earlier in the year, however, Brean claimed the trophy overall, by a scoreline of 7.5 to 4.5.

A Smith was the winner once again of the Midweek Stableford, but this time it was Bob in the lead after Mike’s win seven days before.

Bob scored 39 points to lead the way by two points from Kevin White, with John Rabbetts in third on 35.
