BURNHAM-ON-SEA brought some light into what has been a tough season by winning the Weston & District Midweek League T20 Cup on Sunday.

Burnham’s semi-final was against hosts Weston-super-Mare, a match won comfortably by seven wickets as Sam Emberton took 2-19 before Lee Coles (60) and Peter Harris (38*) knocked off the runs.

That took Burnham into the final against Lympsham Allsorts, a match which saw Burnham bat first and lose Harris for a duck.

Dave Worthington entered the fray at three and played the match-winning knock, striking eight boundaries in his unbeaten 76 as Burnham posted 159-4.

Lympsham made a good start in reply through openers Jamie Howson (30) and Nick Slack (31), but Connor Lefrere’s two wickets pegged them back and Burnham ran out winners by 17 runs.

The cup triumph adds to their success in the league itself, completing an impressive double.

BURNHAM’S Somerset League struggles continue, however, and they were on the receiving end of a thumping 208-run home defeat against Taunton St Andrew’s 2nds on Saturday.

Rob Driver (3-43 from nine) was the only home bowler to enjoy much success as the Saints racked up 313-7 in 45 overs, Martin Jenkins making a century and Jake Harnett 94.

Driver then top scored with 29 in reply but received little in the way of support as Burnham crumbled to 105 all out.

Burnham, now cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division, travel to Winscombe on Saturday.
