Burnham swimmers smash long-standing records


JORDAN Emery and Charlie Attwood both broke long-standing records as Burnham Swimming Club won an exciting second gala in the Winter Series at Cheddar on Saturday.

Jordan's time in the 13-and-under 50 metres breaststroke beat a record set ten years ago. The time that Charlie improved in the 10/under 25 breaststroke had stood for 20 years.

In winning the gala by five points on the final race, Burnham recorded 11 personal-best times and ten relay-best times.

Best times: 11/U - Luke Perrin's, 25m freestyle;both boys' relay teams of Luke Perrin, Robert Howard, Charlie Attwood and Scott Jenkins; girls' freestyle relay team of Rachel Champion, Sabrina Willis, Emily Bailey and Kate Buxton.

13/U - Boys' freestyle relay team of John Edwards, Edward Lupton, Robert Howard and Jordan Emery; girls' medley relay team of Tigan Schofield, Alice Wright, Beth Churchill and Alicia Churchill.

15/U - Michael Edwards, 50m backstroke; Catherine Lodge, 50 breaststroke; boys' relay team of Mark Schroeder, James Ford, Jordan Emery and Michael Edwards; girls' team of Alice Wright, Polly Wright, Danielle Hembrough and Catherine Lodge.

Open group - Elliot Smith, boys 50m breaststroke; Michael Edwards, boys' 50m back-crawl; Zach Burkinshaw, boys' 50m butterfly; Chloe Willis, girls' 50m breaststroke; Jo Burkinshaw, girls' 50m front-crawl; boys' freestyle and medley relay teams of Michael Edwards, Elliot Smith, Mark Schroeder, Stuart Green and Zach Burkinshaw; girls' medley team of Chloe Willis, Veronica Marsh, Polly Wright and Jo Burkinshaw.

Gala result: Burnham-on-Sea 148, Norton Radstock 143, Cheddar 129, Wincanton 90.

Captains elected by Burnham members for the 2007/8 season are Jo Burkinshaw and Stuart Green, with Chloe Willis and Michael Edwards vice-captains.
