Staplegrove FC FT 3-2 Burnham United First

BURNHAM United were beaten by Staplegrove at the weekend after letting a two goal lead slip.

Away from home, Burnham started the match very impressively and were on the front foot from the off.

They soon took a two goal lead and were well in control of both chances created and defensive efforts.

It looked as though they were sailing to victory, or so they thought.

In the second period the Staplegrove side bounced back and looked much improved.

They ran in three goals to turn the game around a pick up a 3-2 win.

Staplegrove's goals came from Bill Bidgway, Callum Hardy and Harry Butler.

Man of the match was awarded to Mario Franco for his effort in the midfield for Staplegrove.

The defeat leaves Burnham in sixth place in the Uhlsport Somerset County Division One with 36 league points.

They are 14 points outside the promotion places so it seems unlikely to catch those up.

However it has still been a fairly solid season for Burnham United.

In their 22 games played, they have won 11, drawn three and lost eight.

There is still eight league games left to play for Burnham United so there is every opportunity for them to push higher up the table.

Up next for Burnham is home game against Middlezoy Rovers Reserves on Saturday, April 22. Kick off is 3pm.
