Burnham United were beaten 2-0 by Highburn Athletic in the Geoff Harvey Cup final at Fairfax Park last Sunday.

The game started with little chances, with both teams looking for an opening without conceding the first goal.

Burnham forced some superb stops from Highburn goalkeeper Lewis Gaylard as the scores were 0-0 at half-time.

The first goal of the game came from Highburn’s Tony Oliva, bending a corner in from the left-hand side, evading the pink and yellow shirts in the box and nestling in the far corner with 70 minutes on the clock.

The slender advantage was a precious one, with all the Highburn players giving their all to hold on and the ever dangerous Burnham United pushing for that all important equaliser.

The Highburn defence stood strong, repelling each and every attack and pulling together as a team.

A high Burnham press kept Highburn pressed back, but a moment of magic from Highburn’s Morgan Sealey sealed the trophy for Highburn Athletic in the last minute.

Sliding in to win the ball on the halfway line, Uphill Castle midfielder Sealey took the ball past the goalkeeper, who had stayed high, and bent an absolute beauty in from 45-yards-out to send the Highburn players and travelling supporters into raptures.
