Uphill Castle CC 1st XI 255 / 3 dec (38) drew with Burnham-on-Sea CC 93 / 1 (24)

DUE to poor weather, Burnham-on-Sea CC and Uphill Castle CC played out a draw at the weekend.

The match in the Division One of the Somerset Cricket Leagues earned Uphill Castle 23 league points while Burnham picked up 26.

The result took Uphill Castle further in front at the top of the table while Burnham now sit in fifth place.

In the match, Burnham won the toss and elected to field first and with the poor weather looming, Uphill Castle made sure to get some early runs.

Openers Finn Churchward (104 not out) and Ben Castle (65) set the tone early on as they pushed the runs quickly.

Churchward continued his impressive form with yet another century for Uphill Castle.

George Cox added 62 runs before the home side declared after 38 overs with the target set at 255 runs.

Peter Harris finished with the best bowling figures for Burnham taking two wickets for 35 runs in his four over spell.

In reply, Burnham managed to score 93 runs inside of 24 overs before the rain forced play to stop and the match ended in a draw.

Bradley House scored 24 not out, Fred Berry was bowled for a duck and Josh Langer added 24 runs not out before the play stopped.

All in all a frustrating afternoon plagued by the poor weather but in saying that, still an important 26 league points on the table for Burnham.

Burnham have four league matches remaining for this season, so still plenty of time to move further up the table.

At the start of the season it looked like Burnham would be fighting at the top end of the table all year however a dip in form partway through put end to that notion.

However in recent weeks the team has seen improved performances and managed to pick up some important wins which has put them back where they should probably be.

Up next for Burnham is a home match against Ilminster Seconds on Saturday, August 12.

Following that match, Burnham take on Wells and Horrington CC- 1st XI on August 19 away from home, Castle Cary CC- 1st XI on August 26 at home and West Monkton CC- 1st XI away from home on September 2.
