Westfield Firsts 1-2 Burnham United First

BURNHAM United AFC have started the 2023/24 season off with a win away from home over Westfield.

It was a closely fought battle but Burnham did enough to leave with three points, winning the match 2-1 away.

Things got off to a bright start for the visitors as they looked to attack right from the off.

It paid off too as in the fourth minute, last season's star striker Curtis Bradshaw found space to score and break the deadlock.

Burnham kept the pressure on and were making chances at will in the first period, in particular Jose Arean was enjoying his time going forward.

The lead was doubled in the 28th minute, when again, Bradshaw beat his marker to free up space to shoot, and found the back of the net.

At the break the score was 2-0 in favour of Burnham and they deserved to be in front.

In the second half, Burnham knew they just had to be solid and hold on to the two goal lead to earn the three points.

Westfield did push back though and the hosts were able to string together some passes and create chances.

The Burnham defence held strong until the 89th minute when Westfield managed to pull a goal back.

However that would be the last score of the match as Burnham made the journey home with three points.

Arean was awarded man of the match for his performance but the whole Burnham squad looked good.

Elsewhere, the Burnham United Reserves were well beaten at home against Worle Rangers.

That match finished 2-10 in favour of the visiting side as the Reserves were undone by a much better side.

A spokesperson from the team said: "Tough day at the office for our reserves.

"After a flury of goals late in the second half with some tired legs the lads never gave up and kept there heads held high. Proud of you all."

The squad can be proud to as the stuck together as a unit and will now look to use that spirit to fight back in the next game.

And in other news at the club, it is currently on the search for more players to join.

A spokesperson from the club said: "The season might have just started but we are always looking to add fresh faces to the club.

"If you want to get yourself involved we would love to hear from you."
