JACK Kesterton played the game of his life to earn Burnham and Berrow a place in the quarter-finals of the Somerset junior knock-out cup in a thrilling climax to the tie away to Wells.
The format was three singles matchplay, with a maximum handicap of 18.
Roy Baker went out last but came in first, beating nine-handicapper Joe Saffer 9 and 7 after making par at every one of the first 11 holes.
Baker then birdied the 12th on his way back to the clubhouse.
Alex Charalambous had to play off 18 and had a tight game with nine-handicapper Tom Leaney but eventually lost 2 and 1.
The match was then decided by the game between Kesterton and Wells captain Josh Knight.
Kesterton, whose handicap is 28, had to play off 18 and was therefore receiving only 12 shots from six-handicapper Knight.
Kesterton went 4 up before Knight fought back to take the lead.
Kesterton came up the last 1 down but earned a half after holing a ten-foot putt to win the hole.
The game and match was decided on the 19th, where Kesterton made a four, nett three to take the match 2-1 and put Burnham into the last eight.
Burnham’s juniors played out a 2-2 draw in their league match away to Isle of Wedmore.
Captain Roy Baker and Robert King found the partnership of Laurie Olive and Matt Shaw too much and went down 3 and 2.
Charlie Powell partnered 12-year-old six-handicapper Josh Fletcher.
Both played well to level the match with a 3 and 2 victory over Joe Olive and Matt Pinsent in the second game.
Alex Charalambous and Jack Kesterton, who were dormie 3 up, held off a strong challenge by Alex Hicks and Randy Salway in the third game to win 1 up.
Harry Longman and newcomer Darren Atkins went 6 down to Adam Peters and Lewis Collins but fought back well to make a game of it before losing 5 and 3.
Burnham’s next match is on Sunday at home to Weston-super-Mare.
