HIGHBRIDGE Town moved five points clear of Middlezoy at the top of the table with this battling draw against Staplegrove.
Staplegrove put the home side to the sword in the reverse fixture last month with a 4-0 win and Highbridge needed to get something from this game to maintain their title push.
The home side played against the wind in the first half but were comfortable in possession.
They were forced to make a change midway through the first half after Will Bailey's attempt at heading the ball ended up with him crashing into the goalpost. John Keir replaced him.
Staplegrove had a couple of chances but failed to trouble goalkeeper John Picton.
Highbridge went 1-0 after half time. The defenders failed to deal with an innocuous cross in for a Staplegrove player to miss-hit the ball and wrong-footed Picton.
The goal galvanised Highbridge and they should have been level through Kear's volley, but the ball just missed the target.
Staplegrove were put under tremendous pressure and Highbridge's efforts were rewarded when Wayne Hand beat the offside trap to toe the ball past the keeper.
Highbridge had chances to take all three points but Staplegrove held on.
Highbridge Town face Bridgwater Sports at home on Saturday.
