EAST Huntspill travelled to Taunton Vale and won the toss, electing to bat.

But they lost their openers early as J. Melhuish (4) was bowled and Martin Cooke trapped in front for six.

A third-wicket partnership of 155 between S. Morley (53) and Andrew Chedzey, who finished with a swashbuckling 131 not out, set the platform for a big total.

Morley was out lbw and then R. Pomeroy was caught before I. Cooke (26 not out) hit some late runs to see the team finish on a mammoth 244-4, despite several rain delays.

Taunton lost six overs to rain and Huntspill had to bowl them out for the win but this was an uphill battle after the first wicket fell in the 13th over with the score on 30.

S. Morley bowled I. Rogers for 11 and then I. Cooke bowled O. Lewis in the 16th over.

Then there was a flurry of wickets as K. Stamp caught G. Field, J. Melhuish caught R. Currow without scoring and Andrew Chedzey (4-11) routed four more wickets.

Huntspill were unable to get the last three wickets, though, and Taunton closed on 82-7 with Huntspill earning 29 points for their efforts.
