THE 25th annual Jo Gooden ladies doubles tournament was played at the Avenue Lawn Tennis Club with players from Avenue, Wedmore, Woodlands, Bridgwater and Cleve tennis clubs taking part.

The tournament is played in memory of Jo Gooden who was a very popular and prominent young county player from the club having also played Junior Wimbledon.

After Jo's sad death in an accident at a young age, her father Dick presented a cup in her memory.

Drawing for partners and to try and ensure everyone plays with someone from another club, there were some very good and entertaining tennis took place between the 11 couples taking part in a round robin format.

The semi-finals were between Elaine Amos (Avenue) and Jo Le-Neve Foster (Bridgwater) versus Genevieve Drinkwater (Woodlands) and Pat Hunter (Avenue); and Jo Attiwell (Wedmore) and Clare Pryce (former Avenue) versus Wendy Pryce (Avenue) and Nicole Priestman (Avenue).

The final between Elaine Amos and Jo Le Neve Foster versus Jo Attiwell and Clare Pryce was one of the most closely contested and the highest standard in the history of the tournament.
