HUNTSPILL were unable to haul themselves off the foot of the table as they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Westlands.

After two cancelled games in a row and with four key players missing, Matt Counsell lost the toss and was asked to bat first on a green but hard surface.

Dan Cavill and Dave Counsell made slow progress against some tight bowling with Cavill the first to fall for 16 in the eighth over.

A flurry of wickets followed as Dave Counsell, Dan Tippetts and Matt Counsell all came and went to leave the score on 78-6.

CJ Organ and Tommy Clarke lead the fight back scoring freely putting the pressure back on the Westlands attack but Organ fell one short of his 50 as Huntspill closed on 170.

Huntspill knew they needed quick wickets and created some early chances. Lismore took a spectacular catch at cover off the bowling of Tippetts with the score on 56 and Tom Garner run out the second wicket to give Huntspill a chance.

However, they could not build on this start and Westlands batsmen scored quickly to run out eight-wicket winners.

Skipper Matt Counsell said: "Rain has killed our season so far. We have had the most games called off in our division which hasn't helped us get into any rhythm as a side with games being stop start especially when the cancelled games would have seen us name our full strength side which we haven't been able to do so far this year.

“Hopefully we can start playing week in week out and it is very simple at the half way stage of the season if we don't string some wins together we will be in Division 4 next season.”
