SOMERSET Vikings are through to the West of England league final after a resounding victory over Bristol Sonics.

The Vikings will play Oxford Cavaliers in Saturday’s (August 18) showdown after comfortably seeing off Bristol 42-12 in their home play-off clash last weekend.

The visitors opened the livelier and were drew first blood through Tristian Moore after just five minutes, but the Vikings soon took the lead when Fatu Lahu touched down for a converted try.

Vikings gradually took control with experienced half-backs Mark Lees and Chris Richards taking full advantage of their forwards’ domination in opposition territory.

The Sonics had their moments and were unlucky to have a try disallowed for a knock on before Brian Webb went on a surging diagonal run to score again for the Vikings.

Webb scored again but Bristol countered with a second try through Jack Gibson to leave the score ahead 14-8 to the home side at the break.

After the break the Vikings all but sealed their place in the final when Fatu scored two quick tries and a superb hat-trick was completed by Webb as he ran 70 metres to score.

As the visitors tired the Vikings resumed the control they had enjoyed for most of the game.

Fatu added his fourth try for Dan Hinton to convert and then a fine passing movement started by John Ferguson and carried on through Darren Horne and Mark Lees left Hinton to score under the posts.
