Bridgwater Town Res 0, Berrow 3

BERROW made it four wins out of four at the weekend with a convincingvictory away to local rivals Bridgwater Town Reserves.

The visitors were forced into three changes with James Gass and Ash Catlow unavailable and Ben Robertson sidelined through injury.

Ian Bellinger was handed his first competitive start against his former club and Ellis Harper was deployed as an emergency right back.

Berrow started positively and it quickly became apparent that the hosts’ game plan was to allow them large amounts of possession, while Bridgwater carried a threat on the break.

Lee Villis could have easily given the home side the lead when Berrow hesitated at the back, only to see his angled lob over Chris Warner bounce the wrong side of the post.

Berrow thought they had taken the lead but Bellinger’s goal was harshly chalked off. But they were quickly over that disappointment when another former Town player, Phil Hartnup, volleyed home.

Berrow made the perfect start to the second half when, within the opening five minutes, they doubled their lead. Once again it was a setpiece that caused the damage, an unmarked Watts applying the finish.

At 2-0, the visitors were in total control, but Town remained a threat on the break with Tyne Govier forcing a save, before being sent off moments later for two yellow cards.

And Hartnup grabbed his second and Berrow’s third after racing away to finish calmly.

Assistant manager Simon Baunton said: “It was a professional performance today, although first half we played within ourselves far too much.

“Once we grabbed the lead, though, we didn’t look back and produced some absolute quality football.”

Berrow: Warner, Harper, Marshfield, Penfold, John, L.McErlain, Read (R.McErlain), Hartnup, Bellinger (Shepherd), Morgan (Lismore), Watts.
