DEVENPORT SERVICES 9 BURNHAM 21
BURNHAM’S forwards proved too strong for Devenport on Saturday as they secured a 21-9 victory at Devenport Services.
Alan House, Tim Piper and Mike Hocking all touched down for the visitors, who remain unbeaten this season.
Powerful running and great interplay in the early stages led to Alan House crashing over for the opening score of the afternoon.
Tim Piper converted before dancing his way through the Devenport defence for a try of his own. He again added the extras to put Burnham in a strong position, and one they never looked like coughing up.
Devenport got on the board with a penalty to make it 14-3, but Burnham’s next try wasn’t far away. Vice captain Mike Hocking crashed his way over following some impressive running rugby, with Piper again adding the extras.
Devonport added another three points before the break to make it 21-6 at half time, and the second half that followed was a completely different story.
Devonport threw everything they had at Burnham but solid defending tackling from new signing Tom Chaffey, captain Pike, Josh Holder and Rich Muskett kept them out.
Muskett was then shown a yellow card for an illegal tackle to leave Burnham with their backs to the wall; but once again they stood firm and held on for a third straight league win.
This Saturday Burnham welcomes Tavistock to the pit, 3pm kick-off.
Burnham: Coles, Hocking, Tower, Keckers, House, Spellman, Fear, Blake, Tuttiett, Piper, Love , Muskett, Holder, Pike, Chaffey, Nash, Lewis, Maka
