Burnham 46 Tavistock 0

ROSS Mckechan bagged a hat trick as Burnham dispatched Tavistock in emphatic fashion at the Pit on Saturday.

The second-row’s haul was added to by scores from Hayden Tuttiett, Rob Muskett and Oliver Streeter, as the home side ran riot.

McKechan opened the scoring after just five minutes when he was bundled over the oine by a strong driving maul, before Piper added a penalty to extend his side’s lead.

Scrum-half Hayden Tuttiett was the next to cross when he latched on to an offload from Pike after initially putting the winger into space.

Tavistock continued to battle, but the Burnham defence held firm and in turn, this forced the visitors into a number of errors.

McKechan took advantage of one of these errors to notch his second, before completing his hat trick just before half-time.

Tavistock started the second half the stronger of the sides, but the impenetrable Stags’ defence continued to hold firm.

And it wasn’t long before they added to their already strong position when a powerful scrum forced referee Tony Spreadbury into awarding a penalty try.

A half break from Piper then released Muskett, whose combination of strong fends and agile footwork allowed him to cross under the posts for Burnham’s fifth try of the afternoon.

Oliver Streeter wrapped up proceedings with a sixth score, to keep Burnham at the top of the Tribute Western Counties West table.
