Burnham 2s 14, Ivel Barbarians 18

A LATE Ivel Barbarians try condemned Burnham to a narrow defeat on Saturday.

After a series of strong carries and neat offloads, Burnham took the lead with a try scored in the corner.

As the half drew to a close Burnham mounted a series of moves that progressively moved them down field.

The backs and forwards were linking well and this led to Matt Slater crossing under the posts – Will Conway converted.

Ivel’s only consolation for the half was a penalty as Burnham lead 14-3 at half-time.

Burnham pushed on after the break but were let down by some poor finishing. This lack of focus was capitalised on by the visitors who were turning the game into a forwards encounter.

They applied concerted pressure using their heavy forwards and it eventually paid off as they crossed the home line.

The visitors began to dominate and it was not long before they produced.

An onslaught on the home line eventually led to another Ivel try and this put the visitors in the driving seat with the game moving into the conclusive stages.

Burnham had one more play to take the game back, but the official awarded a penalty which was converted for 18-14 to Ivel.
